Job Description and Duties

Underthe general direction of the Victims’ Services Unit (VSU) manager, the AssociateGovernmental Program Analyst (Victim Advocate) will work with the VSU team to achieveits mission of helping victims of crime through a statewide victim assistance program thatprovides support, information and assistance at every stage of the criminal process. Travelthroughout California is required. Duties include, but are not limited to: providing advocacyto all victims statewide and out-of-state in cases which the Office of the Attorney General isprosecuting. Provide crisis intervention, encourage victim/witness cooperation in thecriminal justice process, facilitate and coordinate meetings between victims and/or theirfamily member(s) with DOJ personnel. Provide accompaniment and support in courtproceedings and during investigative interviews throughout California in the county wherethe prosecution is taking place. Respond to inquiries received on a toll-free phone line andpublic email system; provide support to crime victims and/or survivors on various issuesincluding non-capital and capital “death penalty” cases; attend various court proceedingsand death penalty executions. Assist with data collection, writing reports and monitoring thebudget for a federal grant related to victim services; attend victim-related events, trainings(in-state and out-of-state), meetings, seminars and conferences; and participate in outreachactivities. Provide training to Attorney General’s Office, county agencies, communityorganizations, and other groups to explain the objectives of the unit. Other duties include,develop training programs, presentations, resource materials, manuals, brochures, andpolicies and procedures to improve services provided to crime victims. Provide response toinquiries from all levels of departmental staff, local law enforcement agencies, DistrictAttorney staff, county and state agencies, non-profit organizations, and the publicconcerning crime victim issues; and assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training ofvolunteers and interns.
