Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is one of the core components of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Amazon EC2 provides access and control levels same as that of a physical server located on premise. AWS provides users with Virtual Private Servers i.e., it offers virtual computers for users to run their applications. These Virtual Private Servers are cost efficient and can be booted in minutes rather than having to purchase, install and deploy a physical server rack. Each Virtual Private server has its own set of copy of operating system, enterprise level security controls, and gives users complete access and control. There are many advantages of Amazon EC2.
Elasticity is one of the major advantage of Amazon EC2. Elasticity can be defined as the ease of scaling up or scaling down the capacity of resources. Procuring the resources when needed and relieving them when they are not needed can be done in matter of minutes and this helps the organization to complete their tasks efficiently and to make best use of the resources.  EC2 provides users with scalable, on-demand compute and processing power for businesses of all sizes. Amazon EC2 provides complete administrative control over the virtual instances. Amazon EC2 provides web interface where users can manage the Compute Instances. The Web interface allows users to scale up, down, boot instances, configure processors etc., with just a mouse click at the convenience of the users.
 
Another Major advantage in using Amazon EC2 is the flexibility it provides to the users. Especially, for business that are migrating to cloud, might have developed their applications to a specific OS need not reprogram their Infrastructure to run on different platform. EC2 provides a choice to users to select the OS of their choice and AWS is the only provider who supports MAC OS. Hence Migration to cloud is made much easier and complex free.  EC2 provides platform with choice of processor, storage, networking and operating system. AWS EC2 provides the fastest processors in the cloud and it is the only provider with 400 GBPS Ethernet Networking. One of the major advantage of Amazon EC2 is the Reliability it provides to the users. The basic expectation and the core requirement of any organization from cloud service provider is reliability and the availability. SLA commitment of Amazon EC2 is 99.99% for each region and each region consists of 3 availability zones. According to Gartner, AWS Regions is the recommended approach for running applications that require high availability.
Security is another major benefit on using Amazon EC2. EC2 has many built-in security features. When users launch any instance, it is run in virtual private network which runs in isolated network. Users have full control over their instances. Amazon EC2 has security groups that act as virtual firewalls to control traffic. Users have the privilege to set up and modify rules to these security groups. Lockdown security model prevents administrative access removing possibility of human error and tampering.  AWS supports 89 security standards and compliance certifications. Also, using Amazon AWS services are inexpensive as they offer pay as you go model.

An EC2 instance, it is like a virtual server located in the AWS cloud From an Amazon Machines Image (AMI), you can launch a single or multiple EC2 instances.
How is an EC2 instance different from a host computer?
