The essay is to be written for an audience that may not have read the novel. Format: Introductory Paragraph: Think of a great hook to open your paper – something that will intrigue the reader and make them want to read it. Identify the author and title of the book. Body Paragraphs: Each paragraph must have a topic sentence. The topic sentence is followed by a lead-off sentence in which you introduce a specific detail or example that illustrates how this is true. Next, add at least one embedded quote giving additional information about the lead-off sentence. Next, add a couple of sentences to explain how the detail or example relates to the main thesis. The last sentence is the clincher, which restates the main point of the paragraph. Use a transition to take readers to the body paragraph topic sentences and then on to the conclusion. Concluding Paragraph: This paragraph should restate your thesis statement but in different wording. You should mention again the title and author of the work.
