  4. For each of the following scenarios, which judgment heuristic is most likely being utilized and why? Be sure to provide justification for your designation.
    1. Kevin is in the process of negotiating his salary for his new job. He hopes for a salary of $60k, so he starts off asking for $70k. His boss offers him $55k, and he counters with $65k. Finally, his boss offers him $60k and Kevin accepts the offer.
    2. When Ally has a fear of flying, because she always hears about and can think easily of examples of airplane crashes in the news. So, she ends up driving to her vacation destination instead (even though car crashes are statistically more likely).
    3. Kate found a piece of feces on her lawn and assumed that it came from her neighbor walking her dog as this has happened several times in the past. However, this time it was actually a fox from the nearby woods, something she has never experienced before.
  5. What is the difference between deductive and inductive reasoning? Provide an example of deductive reasoning that is invalid, but true. Also provide an example of inductive reasoning that is true. Be sure to include appropriate premises and conclusions for each.
  6. Problem representation can sometimes be hindered if the solver is thinking too rigidly, which makes it difficult to come to the eventual solution of the problem. Name, describe, and provide examples of the two factors that can influence problem representation rigidity. Be sure that your example demonstrates your understanding.
