Work Culture
Thompson Company is a corporation that deals with the production and distribution of consumer based products. The company enjoys a perfect position in the market based on the fact that it focuses on customer satisfaction. The corporation continues to enjoy a dominant position in the industry as it looks to expand its services to other countries. The corporation business line is publishing and printing pamphlets and books. The company mission statement is to transform learning through publishing quality reading materials and creating awareness of their published books to prospective clients. Creating customer awareness requires application of intensive marketing skills. However, the organizational culture which is evident in the Thompson Company does not support its core mission and its objective of conducting marketing activities. Apparently, the organizational culture plays a key part in determining the position of the company within the competitive market. Organization culture set by Thomson Company management does not support the business values, goals, vision, mission, and set objectives. The paper explains on how poor work culture impacts the company’s productivity negatively.
The existing organization issue is Thompson Company is poor organizational culture which makes it difficult for the company to achieve its objective and acclimatize to its mission of transforming learning through publishing quality reading materials and creating awareness of their existence. Creating awareness of a company product requires use of intensive marketing strategies, which are supported by the organization management and the entire staff members. According to Mankins & Garton (2017), “organization culture brings harmony between the management and the overall affiliated staff members in terms of formulating and supporting all kinds of organization activities like marketing, innovation of new product and many more.” However, the current culture of Thompson Company does not create a favorable learning environment for employees which make it difficult for them to understand the marketing strategies which are applicable in their target market. On another point, the organization culture does in the company does not support employee specialization and this contributes to further challenge when it comes to company staff members who are responsible to effectively plan and carry out marketing activities. In addition, the established culture does not support communication between the various founded departments within the organization. Marketing is a universal activity which requires mutual support from various units in an organization. For instance, marketing department needs monetary support from the finance department. The coordination and support among various departments in an organization is supported by the set organizational culture, a critical aspect which is absent in Thompson Company.
Poor work culture within Thompson leads to low employee engagement, limited flexibility and absenteeism. The lack of a proper work culture makes the employee to have low engagement levels. The practice takes place based on lack of motivation that leads to low employee performance rates. Limited flexibility is the other common factor that needs to be addressed based low productivity levels that needs to be positively addressed (Davis, 2017). Limited flexibility affects the implementation of a goal based practice and ensuring that the initiative is achieved. Absenteeism is the other factor associated with poor work culture as employees begin missing work leading to increased rates of turnovers.
For accompany to meet its break-even point a positive work culture needs to be developed. In this case, the poor work culture hinders productivity leading to increased losses on an annual basis. Ideally, high employee turnovers are experienced leading to poor departmental results in terms of efficiency and productivity. Other factors such as lack of empathy are an issue that affects the ability of the company to meet its target (Mankins & Garton, 2017). The management has the duty of ensuring that the poor work culture needs to be positively considered based on the implications involved in the application of the practice in terms of efficiency and productivity. The elimination of the practices begins with the top management to the junior management.
In summary, the paper explains on how poor work culture impacts the company’s productivity negatively. The poor work culture of the company is the basic issue in place.
