You must produce a 5-sided athlete report on one athlete/team in one sport. The purpose of the report is to measure and evaluate a specific athlete’s/team’s performance either in an individual or team sport. You will use your analysis to identify aspects of their performance which may be suboptimal and hence areas where the athlete/team should consider training or re-training. You might choose to analyse one of the following areas:
1) Technique: Select a technique or skill executed by the athlete that is integral to their performance. Using a technique analysis approach (e.g. video, Qualisys), collect multiple trials worth of data. Explore performance accuracy, movement accuracy, movement variability or some other aspect of interest. Examples might include analysis of a kicking or throwing skill, a gait analysis, stroke analysis, or observation of a component in a gymnastic routine.
2) Appropriateness of training load, pacing strategy (individual), workload (team): Use GPS to monitor an athlete’s/team’s performance. Identify the requirements for the sport/event, drawing upon literature. Measure the athlete’s/team’s performance and indicate avenues for improvement in training load specificity or performance execution.
3) Tactical/Strategy: Investigate the tactical role of a player in an individual (tennis and shot type) or team sport (e.g. positional role), or the tactical behaviour of a team (e.g. attacking strategy in football). Are they successful in the execution of their role/strategy, for example successful passing, shooting, defensive actions? This should include identification of the causes of inaccuracy and poor performance.
