This list of photographers (attachment above) is to enhance your readings from the textbook chapters of this time period. No textbook is able to include all the photographers/artists working in a certain time period. Therefore, to support your understanding and to build up your knowledge, attached is a list of photographers working between the years 1915-1939. Please note that some of these photographers may have been active in the years before or after 1915-1939.
I know it is impossible for you guys to remember all the photographers and their work from this course, hence these assignments. From personal experience as an undergraduate, the artists I remembered the most are the ones I was assigned to research so you will be doing the same. But don’t worry, I am not making you write a giant essay. In fact, we will ease into doing reporting. We will begin with you answering questions. Slowly we will move into you doing the entire report. These exercises will also force you to write instead of plagiarize.
1. Choose a photographer from this list who shares the same first letter last name as yours. For example, if your last name begins with the letter B, then you pick an artist with a last name that begins with the letter B. If there are more than 1 name listed, choose one that you have not reported on previously.
2. Answer the following questions in order:
A). What is the photographers name? Where did she/he receive their training in photography? Art school or self-taught? (0.5 pts)
B). What was her/his major accomplishment? What kind of influence did she/he have on photography/science, the art world, or society in general? (1.0 pts)
C). Choose one of her/his photograph and embedded it onto your answer. If you dont know how to embed an image, look up the how to in the Resources module. If you are writing your homework on a word doc., you can copy and paste the photo onto your word doc. If you still dont know how to embed, then attach the image. (0.5 pts)
D). Describe the image you just embedded. Explain how this photograph fits into the context of your answer in #2 (above). (0.5 pts)
3. List 2 references where you found information about the artist and/or the image. (0.5 pts)
