Assignment Learning Objectives: You should demonstrate an ability to… 1. Identify when someone is making a claim about personality psychology. 2. Evaluate the plausibility of the claim. A higher scoring article evaluation has a short summary that captures the claim made, has a statement of plausibility, and justifies why a claim is plausible using course content. A good article evaluation has two major components (summary and evaluation) and two minor components (Link to article and statement of plausibility). A good summary is a short (2 sentences or less) summary of the claim of the article. Not a summary of what they did, but a summary of the point. For example, an article might claim: night owls have more sex than morning larks. Concision and clarity are important here. A good evaluation explains why the you do or do not think the claim is plausible. The justification should be linked to course content. (please use uploaded PPP) In cases where the claim was made with no evidence, then a good evaluation includes suggestions for how to test the claim. A good evaluation doesnt use anecdotes as justification, nor does it include anything about the writing style of the article. A good link to article is one that exists. A good statement of plausibility is one that says if you think something is likely true or not. As examples: I believe this claim because; I think this claim is unlikely to be true because; this isnt plausible because.
