Alexis Jackson-Potts,
For this week’s assignment, I decided to continue my research on the Cardiovascular system. The heart is a muscle that is around the size of a fist. The Pericardium is a protective covering that surrounds the heart and allows it to stay in place, and the Cardiac Muscle is the wall of the heart (Anatomy of the Human Heart and Cardiovascular System: MyVMC). The Cardiovascular system has three main areas of focus that consist of the heart, the blood vessels, and the blood itself. The purpose of the heart is to allow blood to flow throughout the body. The blood vessels contain many tubes that carry blood supply which is known as veins and arteries, and Capillaries connect the arteries and veins together (Anatomy of the Human Heart and Cardiovascular System: MyVMC). There are other blood vessels that connect to other areas of the heart known as the aorta, pulmonary trunk, pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins, inferior vena, and/or the superior vena cava (Anatomy of the Human Heart and Cardiovascular System: MyVMC). The heart also contains four chambers which include the top two chambers that consist of the left and right atria, and the bottom two chambers that consist of left and right ventricles (Anatomy of the Human Heart and Cardiovascular System: MyVMC). Found between both the heart chambers and blood vessels are called Values, which are found in the veins throughout the body (Anatomy of the Human Heart and Cardiovascular System: MyVMC). Each part of the heart plays an important role that allows oxygen and other nutrients to flow throughout the body to survive.
