Select one of the following group case studies: Group #1 Last year the high school’s men’s basketball team made it to the first round of conference games. They suffered a huge loss and ever since then have been having a hard time working effectively with each other. The athletes are extremely talented and all bring something to the team, but lately their ability to play as a unit has been challenged. Their coach has noticed not only the physical changes, but also the fact that communication is lacking, small groups have started to form and there is an overall lack of motivation and excitement. Group #2 The Mustangs are a college female soccer team. They consider themselves to be relatively close. At the end of last season their coach retired and the new coach they have doesn’t have the same coaching philosophy or style that they’re used to. The team is struggling this season. The athletes feel it is because of the new coach and the coach is struggling to see the true potential in the team and build this team as his own. Take on the role as a sport psychology consultant. You were hired to work with the team you selected in the case study to assist in enhancing group cohesion.
