Through the use of FBAs, teachers can hypothesize about the function of the observed behaviors and create a behavior intervention plan (BIP) that can be used to teach and support replacement behaviors to help students with ASD be successful in the classroom environment. Use the same student you selected from the “Autism Programmatic Case Studies” for the Topic 1 assignment as the focus for this assignment. Part 1: Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) Review the textbook reading to ensure your understanding of each step for completing an FBA. Carefully review the case study details for your selected student. In 250-500 words, summarize how you would complete all the steps of a functional behavioral assessment for the student. Make sure to address the following: Identify the selected student. Identify and provide an operational definition of the target behaviors. Describe the specific data that should be collected (i.e., dimensions or topographies of behavior). Explain methods that will be used for collecting the required data. Formulate a hypothesis on the possible functions of the behaviors. Cite the case study as appropriate. Part 2: Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) Once you have formulated a hypothesis related to the student’s behavior, develop a BIP that you think will be effective for addressing the identified behavior deficits and excesses. In 250-500 words, summarize your plan by addressing the following: Describe a replacement behavior you want to teach. Describe two possible interventions and/or strategies for teaching this replacement behavior. Explain how you will evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention plan. Explain why the selected student will benefit from this plan and rationalize your choices using information from the case study. Support your submission with 1-2 scholarly resources. While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
