Every day we evaluate movies, political candidates, academic programs, partners, green designs for new cars or architecture, or issues and objects that affect our daily life. Often you will determine the relevant criteria for your evaluation; other times, the criteria are already in place (symptoms for a specific illness, for example).
As you consider your evaluation, focus on a social phenomenon or work (television show, movie, advertisement, etc.) that merits your attention as well as the attention of your audience. You may want your audience to understand your topic differently from how they currently understand it. Describe your topic and list detailed criteria (either traditional or fresh) for your evaluation, synthesizing your overall evaluation into a thesis statement. Your goal is to help your readers appreciate the significance of your evaluation by aligning the criteria you have developed with the object of your evaluation and the interests of your audience.
