Human trafficking in the southeast United States

Human trafficking in the southeast United StatesOverview
This is a writing-intensive course; therefore, on top of your discussion posts/responses, you will
also be required to write a lengthy research paper. This paper will require you to perform
independent research on a topic of your interest. You are to put together a final paper that is
properly referenced, organized, and analyzed. This paper will be a synthesis of relevant literature
on the topic of your interest. The purpose of a literature review is to conceptualize, analyze, and
understand the relevant scholarly literature on your topic of interest. This literature review will
provide a foundation of your understanding on a topic of which you are dedicated. Theoretically,
this research paper should prepare you for future Criminal Justice courses and help you expand
knowledge of this topic throughout your tenure at North Carolina Central University.
Instructions
You are to prepare a four (4) page, double-spaced literature review based on your interest in a
topic of choice. You are required to use a MINIMUM of seven (7) scholarly (peer-reviewed)
sources that are to be cited in-text and at the end of the text (Reference list). The more narrow
your topic, the “easier” you can execute this research paper. An example of a broad topic would
be “I want to perform a literature review on racial inequalities in the criminal justice system.” On
the other hand, an example of a narrow topic would be the following: “I want to perform a
literature review on racial inequalities as it relates to pretext traffic stops by police officers.” This
will allow you to focus in on the relevant literature on this topic, which can be completed in the
page limit required. After choosing your topic, you should outline your paper as follows:
1. Introduction to the topic/issue you are researching (1/3 of a page in length).
a. Present the issue/topic
b. The significance of the issue/topic
2. Review (should be the bulk of your paper, 2.5-3 pages).
a. Present the research that scholars are finding on this subject.
b. Present any consistencies in the findings
c. Present any differences in the findings
3. Discussion/Conclusion. (1-page)
a. Based on the literature from experts in the field, what should future research
attempt to uncover?
b. Where do you envision this issue/subject in the future (will there be change/what
are the actions needed to make change).
c. Final summary paragraph.Criteria
Unlike your discussion board posts this semester where you often required to give your opinion,
this paper is intended to be more professional, whereby you present what the experts in the field
say about the subject. That means that you are to stay away from sentences that start with “I
think” “I believe.” Instead, you are to provide what scholars are finding about the subject matter
(for example: “Smith (2010) states that…”).
MUST USE PEER-REVIEWED ARTICLES
Again, this is a professional paper in that syntax, grammar, punctuation, and spelling should be
carefully thought and executed. Equally as important is your ability to properly cite (APA
format) in-text citations and compile an accurate reference list. Further, it will prevent you from
committing plagiarism and receiving a zero (0) grade. Review Grading:

Within this conclusion, students are to offer their opinion on potential missing pieces of
the scholarship and where the future of this research agenda is going.
Good Review (105–134 Points)
 The minimum page limit is met.
 Your literature review is submitted before November 6 th , 11:59pm.

 There is a minimum of seven (7) scholarly sources.
 There is moderate number of syntax, punctuation, spelling, and other grammatical errors.
 The literature review somewhat grasps the relevant literature related to the topic area of

scholars are finding about the topic An average introduction is offered, whereby the reader somewhat understands the topic
that will be presented with an attempt at making a transition into the literature review.

connecting the recent scholarship with the historical scholarship was not fully executed.

future of this research agenda is going. However, their opinion was not based on the
previous literature presented.
Poor Posting (0–104 Points)
***Note, it is possible to receive zero points even if you submit the paper on time***
 The minimum page limit is not met

 There is NOT a minimum of seven (7) scholarly sources.
 There are plenty of syntax, punctuation, spelling, and other grammatical errors.
 The literature review does not grasp the relevant literature related to the topic area of
interest.
o The student did not make it clear that they understand the literature and what
scholars are finding about the topic A weak attempt at presenting the topic within the introduction is made. The reader does
not understand the topic that will be presented; with no transition into the literature
review.
 The historical and more recent scholarship is not accurately presented. However, no
effort was made to connect the recent scholarship with the historical scholarship.
 Within this conclusion, the student did not offer an informed opinion on the missing
pieces of the scholarship and where the future of this research agenda is going.
 The student plagiarized the literature review.
o This can occur in multiple ways that include (but are not limited to); not providing
a reference list, not providing in-text citations, using language from other authors
as your own.
