Abstract
Background
People with mental health diseases may require close monitoring by family members and friends. These people have less ability to take care of themselves and thus, they need close friends and relatives to look after them. It is important to evaluate the contribution of the friends and family to their recovery and wellbeing.
Objective
The objective of the study is to find out the impacts of support of family and friends to people suffering from mental health diseases.
Method
Meta-analysis was used for this research paper. A systemic research was carried out to identify articles related to the impacts of family and friends on mental health. Five research articles were compared and data retrieved using Biostat’s Comprehensive Meta-analysis.
Results
Friends and family have a major impact on the rate of recovery of people with mental health diseases. Social support is majorly provided by family and friends. Those who lack social support take longer to recover compared to those who have full social support. People with mental health issues and whose friends and family are not supportive find it hard to associate.
Conclusion
The research will help unveil the importance of being close to people who have mental health diseases as close friends and family. It will unveil the importance of social support on the rate of recovery of patients with mental health problem.
Recommendation
It is recommended that further research be conducted to show how mental health patients at different ages are impacted on by the presence of friends and family as age may be a factor determining the recovery process.
