Abortions Around the World

Berer, Marge. “Abortion and Policy Around the World: In Search of Decriminalization.” Health and Human Rights, vol. 19, no. 1, 2017, pp. 13–27.

The article is relevant to the research because it is establishing how the entire world is looking at abortion. It is important to understand that abortion causes a stir across the world and the focus currently on decriminalizing it. According to Berer, the growing urge and push for social reforms across the world are helping solve the negative constraints that the society did input on abortion and instead changing the entire narrative to start embracing the aspect of will for each person to make their independent decision (14). The article confirms that there are growing social changes in the world that are increasingly changing the way that people think and how the society thinks which is a major influence to some of the traditional vices. It is evident that the article is relevant to the research because it introduces the concept of people’s freedom to make their independent choices and how it is changing the narrative of abortion around the world inclusive of the conservative countries of the world.

Guillaume, Agnès, et al. “Abortion Around the World an Overview of Legislation, Measures, Trends, and Consequences.” Population (English Edition, 2002-), vol. 73, no. 2, 2018, pp. 217–306.

The changes in cultural, social and political contexts across the world are influencing the way that people view abortion. Most countries in the world are slowly embracing abortion as a way of giving women the freedom to try and have their freedom to make their independent decisions. Guillaume explained that the legislations across the world are changing and they are influencing the perception of abortion and since some of the leading nations in the world are adopting the concept, they are influencing also the small and growing countries deep rooted into their cultures to change their focus (297). The article is relevant because it is explaining that in the past decade numerous countries in Europe, Africa and Asia have been heading into referendums to try and give the people the choice to make the decision on abortion instead of sticking to some outdated abortion principles. It is evident that the article substantiates the ongoing norm of legalizing abortion across the world since it is losing the need for the government to hold tight rules on an individual’s life and decision.

Erdman, Joanna N. “Theorizing Time in Abortion and Human Rights.” Health and Human Rights, vol. 19, no. 1, 2017, pp. 29–40.

According to Erdman, the specification of time in abortion is a major conflict and instead there should be a different approach towards solving abortions in the world (32). It is evident in the article that abortion should incorporate health, justice and morality all working to make sure that abortion is a safe practice for the pregnant woman. It is evident that there should an approach of legalization of abortion but it should be in respect to the pregnant woman’s health, the legal standards within the setup should be upheld and the morals that dictate the proper provision of safe services to the individual should be provided to the patient despite their time of making the decision to terminate the pregnancy. The article is relevant because it establishes the settings in which abortion should be conducted as a way of proving to the society that there is a manner of conducting it safely and within the moral settings of the society.

Londras, Fiona De & Máiréad Enright “Accessing Abortion Care: Principles for Legislative Design.” Repealing the 8th: Reforming Irish Abortion , 1st ed., Bristol University Press, Bristol, UK; Chicago, IL, USA, 2018, pp. 61–104.

Londras & Enright explained that health is an essential tool and thus the government through the health sector should device the appropriate abortion care (63). The care is sufficient and relevant to the world especially because they are in a delicate phase part of their lives. The article is connected to the research topic since it is promoting the introduction of laws protecting women interested in abortions which has been contrary to laws across the world. The denials of health services are resulting is worse situations that is seeing numerous pregnant women losing their lives after conducting illegal abortions. The article is relevant because it is seeking to campaign and champion for access to health care for the pregnant women when indulging in abortion especially in the right health care facilities instead of having to hide and execute it illegally and threatening their lives. The article is relative to the study because it is addressing access to abortion care for women and it should receive legislative reforms to include them in amendments that will help make sure that there are interactions which are beneficial for their functions.

Erhardt-Ohren, Blake, and Sarah Lewinger. “Refugee and Internally Displaced Women’s Abortion Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices: Addressing the Lack of Research in Low- And Middle-Income Countries.” International Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health, vol. 46, no. Supplement 1, 2020, pp. 77–81.

Most of the third world nations tend to have some strong connections and affiliations to their cultures that strongly oppose any chance of developments. The older generation was against abortion then that is what they emulate and teach the future generations forgetting that it is far from the truth especially in a democratic country. Erhardt-Ohren & Lewinger explained that the women in the middle to poor countries tend to struggle with the funds to input their health services or even channel bills into their houses (77). The concept is a major challenge because to the current society because people are seeking for liberty through information and thus the limitation of the same in the third world countries is a resource of limitation. The article is relevant because it is establishing the existing realities in the world especially when dealing with abortion and health of the women which is a major problem in the society. it is evident that women in these settings have no life and thus they do not share the same privileges as those in the development countries.
