The internetworking infrastructure is one of the major components of businesses everywhere. When working with interconnected technologies, security issues may arise. There are often news reports about stolen corporate assets that contain sensitive information about either businesses or customers. Discuss the trade-offs that may be necessary between a fully interconnected infrastructure and security measures. If you had a company with a large internetworking infrastructure, what kinds of trade-offs would you anticipate and what kinds of policies would you consider putting in place?

Availability is an important element in today’s global marketplace. Customers expect to be able to access services 24/7, but no system will have an availability of 100 percent. When deciding whether to host a solution in-house or externally, many considerations need to be examined. What are some of these considerations? List some of the resources that need to be allocated in order to maintain in-site hosting of services. Explain whether or not you believe in in-house hosting.

PART A. RESEARCH COMPONENT: INTERNETWORKING BUSINESS MODEL

In today’s fast-moving economy, traditional business models have evolved into hybrid versions of the original models. Enterprise X uses a hybrid business model. Analyze the evolving network business component of Enterprise X by first describing it in your words and explaining how the company integrated networking into its previous traditional business model. Then, illustrate with examples how their current hybrid business model can evolve into a more internetworking-centered business model in order to compete as a global service provider. Justify your ideas with references from the literature and the Web and if possible refer to case studies.

PART B. PRESENTATION COMPONENT: INTERNETWORKING STRATEGY

You have already researched pertinent issues and prepared a Position Paper that will guide you in presenting your proposed strategy for Enterprise X. Now you must also prepare the first part of your strategy proposal where you will present your vision for Enterprise X. You will demonstrate an understanding of the challenges ahead for Enterprise X by analyzing the following issues with respect to the planned internetworking strategy as described in your Position Paper. You continue to build the case for the new strategy by analyzing the needed new business network model:

1. The requirements for a new business network model for including the new geographies where the company will operate within a global strategy.
2. The internetworking concepts will be integrated into the new strategy.
3. The possible partnerships that will be needed to participate in the global marketplace.

Keep in mind that each week you will work on a new component of your proposal presentation and, combined, these weekly presentations will become your final project proposal that will be published to the class in Week 5. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation with five to ten charts covering the aspects of your strategy described above.
