Research Paper Due April 11, 2021 (Sunday)

Research Paper –
******But, please pick a topic that you are interested in and comfortable enough with to do a Research-style literary paper.

Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? Short story by Joyce Carol Oates Is the story That will be used.
This document is to help you get started and as we move along I will be posting more helpful material on the literary research paper, etc.  (Also, do NOT forget to go ahead and look ahead to prepare and look over the chapters our helpful etext for details/tips/info/pointers/samples, etc.) This assignment is just like any other research essay except you will be researching a work of literature/reading from our text.

Scholars analyze and pick apart works of literature/readings all of the time.  You will be using their research (found in scholarly journals) to support your thesis. You may use the library databases, books, scholarly journals, but no websites (this means no junk websites).  While you need at least four sources for your research, you only need to actually quote and use three sources in your essay.

The essay must be 4-5 pages long and include a works cited page.  (Do not forget your works cited.) It is good to read some sample student essays that exemplify good literary analysis.  Our book has many to which you can refer and also our very helpful information in our course and modules areas.  Classic mistake: Too much summary.  Avoid adding summary.  Assume your reader has already read the work–otherwise, why would they be reading your essay?  Only summarize the details you need to in order to analyze and discuss that particular part of the story/work in depth. Still wondering what I will be looking for in this paper and how to write it?  Please take a look at these helpful websites (***these are just supplemental sites – follow my instructions here for assignment details): https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/common_writing_assignments/annotated_bibliographies/index.html (Links to an external site.) https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/common_writing_assignments/annotated_bibliographies/annotated_bibliography_example.html (Links to an external site.) https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/subject_specific_writing/writing_in_literature/writing_about_literature/literature_topics_and_research.html (Links to an external site.) http://www.roanestate.edu/owl/elementslit.html http://www.roanestate.edu/owl/writinglitanalysis1.html (Links to an external site.) http://www.bucks.edu/media/bcccmedialibrary/pdf/HOWTOWRITEALITERARYANALYSISESSAY_10.15.07_001.pdf (Links to an external site.) http://www.unm.edu/~aobermei/Eng200/samplepapers/assignment5benjamin/index.html (Links to an external site.) (This last one even has samples for you to read, so that you can get an idea of what I am looking for.)
***  Do not use WIKIPEDIA.  Stick to scholarly journals and books only!
((( ***Never use Wikipedia in academic or professional writing.  Wikipedia is an uncredible and untrustworthy source and can be edited by anyone…
*** You may use articles from databases and you may not use Wikipedia as a source. Web sites must be .gov, .edu, or .org sites.  Avoid .com sites. *** )))
*** Scholarly articles must come from an academic database. The Library tab has several to choose from. This article may not come from Enotes.com, Sparknotes.com, Cliffnotes.com, Wikipedia, or other similar summary sites. ***
