PSYC102 General Psychology Written Assignment Instructions
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess your critical thinking, writing, information literacy, and technological competency.
Overview:
1. Identify a theory or concept in the textbook (pick something you disagree with or something you might mostly agree with but would change a part of it based on your experience).
2. Explain the theory or concept (definition, key points).
3. Does the theory or concept fit with your experience? Why not? (Give specific real-life examples from your own life that demonstrate the theory or concept you picked does not work for you).
4. What would you change about the theory or concept to make it more applicable to your understanding of human behavior/mental processes? Use a peer-reviewed research article to support your changes. The peer-reviewed research article must be from a different subfield of psychology than the theory or concept subject you are disagreeing with (for example, personality versus health psychology). Or, the article can be from another closely related area, for example, health sciences, biology, sociology, or anthropology.
5. What have you learned from the theory or concept? How will you apply that new knowledge to your everyday life?

Include a REFERENCE page (you do NOT need an abstract as some APA articles have).
You can take the Academic Integrity/Plagiarism Tutorial and the APA Citations tutorial (available at the library website under “Quizzes and Tutorials”) to learn more about the academic integrity and the APA style.
Use the textbook and at least one peer-reviewed journal article to support your points. A peer-reviewed journal can be found on the PsycArticles database at the MC Library.
You must use APA style and cite the article or book whenever you write something that is not your own idea.
The paper should be at least 3 (three) pages in length (not including title page and reference page), double spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, APA style.

Changes to the theory or concept proposed based on the peer-reviewed research article – 4 points
One thing learned from the theory or concept and one example of how to apply that new knowledge to everyday life – 4 points
APA style and format – 2 points
References – 2 points.
