WEEK 2 DUISCUSSION: RESEARCH
Remind us of the future GAP in the literature you identified last week- Or of a new one.
The coronavirus pandemic is one of the most challenging crises the world has faced since the Second World War. It has killed many people and has led to an economic regression without any parallel in the past. The people living in the rural areas have majorly been affected by this pandemic. They are among the people who are at considerable risk, yet there has not been enough information that portrays the danger of this pandemic to this vulnerable group of people in the rustic areas.
Much research has been conducted majorly highlighting the plight of the people living in urban centers; according to Mueller, et al., (2021), the urban bias of data and research has continued ignoring millions of people living in the rural areas, and this knowledge gap is capable of resulting into the creation of poor and un-informed long term recovery policies that are aimed at addressing the situation in the whole country.
This study “Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural America”, therefore, was aimed at checking the prevalence of the pandemic in the rural population. However, the study was only conducted between June and July in only one month. This, therefore, brings the lack of accurate data identifying the prevalence of the current situations. There is a lot of data that was collected in this duration, and the period of data collection is viewed as limited to offer a wide-scope understanding of the impacts of the virus. Therefore, this means that it requires more research to understand better the dynamic implications that the pandemic has caused. The researchers of this study believe that the actual health implications of the COVID-19 virus are yet to be understood. This is an illustration that the pandemic has had numerous and diverse effects on local, state, and national politics, the healthcare system, and security, among other social aspects.
Post a research alternate hypothesis (H1) and the null hypothesis (Ho) based on the GAP you identified.
H1- COVID-19 pandemic impacts more people in rural America than in urban areas.
HO- COVID-19 pandemic does not significantly impact people living in rural America than in urban areas.
Identify your Independent Variable (IV) and your Dependent Variable (DV).
Variables are a very significant part of research and development. This is because the variables signify the information in a research project. The dependent variable represents the experimental and produces the research result, while the result is the independent variable. In this case, the independent variable is the rural American and the urban American populations. The independent variable is the impact of Covid-19 on people.
What would it look like if your IV is categorical and your DV is continuous?
IV- COVID-19 pandemic impact
DV- people living in rural areas

How you will measure your variables

The variables will measured by the number of people affected by the covid-19 pandemic. However, it is essential that reliability and validity are put into consideration when research methodology is is choosen
