· Describe Adorno’s views on standardization and pseudo-individualization. Let’s talk about who Theodor Adorno was, a composer, philosopher, and socialist by way of Frankfurt Germany. Adorno’s beliefs were that the primary focus of progressive philosophers should be the study of how the working and middle-class of developed nations think and feel and in what manner do they spend their free time. He viewed standardization and pseudo-individualization as popular music that was recognized by members of a society as a belief and practice at a specific time frame. Due to mass media being easily accessible and that it influenced the everyday lives of society and people on an individual basis. He said that Walt Disney was the most dangerous man on Earth being the thought of the influences of mass media was to distract and have us not understand who we were. “He once said if people would work more and talk less we would be better off” (Adorno, n.d.).

According to Adorno who himself used to be a musician and composer very properly understood the tuning style of the society as per his wondering famous or pop tune is constantly a phase of the society. According to him, the AABA sample is used in the most famous song that is repeating the major theme at the opening or stop of the tune and at the cease of every verse with or barring little variation. That skill a trendy system is created and the work of energetic listening is no longer always required, For example, a product is produced through one business enterprise with its identity and some other corporation produce the equal product with a one of a kind name, the widespread system for manufacturing stays the same. In an equal way standardization of song happens. He mentioned that track consists of the equal note, verses, chorus, and bridge which is interchangeable however does now not harm the song. For that capital nature of the society is spending money to purchase happiness by way of investing in false wishes in trade for happiness.

Pseudo, as the title suggests, is a false trust that makes a man or woman trust that certainly there is some variant current in the song and it makes the character accept as true with that every track is unique. According to him, pseudo individualism is a phantasm of desire that is an assorted rhythm to an extraordinary sort of concord to a distinctive sort of instrumentation. That makes the listener trust the track is unique. It would no longer alternate the tune of the song (RealizeIt, 2021).

· Share a unique example from pop culture (movies, songs, books, etc.) that follows this structure (do not reiterate the same examples shared by classmates). The example I will use is a song by Billie Eilish name Lovely that went viral and surpassed 350 million views on YouTube. Adorno’s theory is accepted in the sense that with slight variation in rhythm, instrument, and interchanging the verses the standardized song is made pseudo individualized and pre-digested.
· Do you find merit in or agree with Adorno’s theory of popular culture?  Why or why not? In my opinion, there is merit in Adorno’s theory of Pop Culture. For example, just like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, we as human beings have needs emotionally and the way we satisfy those needs comes in various shapes and forms. I can say it is developed at an early age and sometimes later in life. Adorno’s theory is somewhat accusatory of listening habits per say. I mean any person if functions on a high level can make decisions for his or her emotions and needs in order to achieve the pursuit of happiness.

Response Two

Adorno viewed standardization and pseudo-individualism as regurgitated music for the masses. Standardization of music follows a similar formula that can be found throughout a genre of music and unlike classical music that vary greatly from start to finish popular music can interchange choruses throughout the song. Psuedo-individualism is the minute differences or the “hook” that makes the song different to reel people in to accepting it as new material, it is still the same music only presented differently to make it stand out amongst other songs (Unit 7: The of Pop Culture, 2021).
An example of standardization and pseudo-individualism in pop culture is the song “Ice Ice Baby”, originally a hit song that everyone loved for its originality came under scrutiny for stealing the beat from the song “Under Pressure” (Pevens, 2020). Most pop music genres have their own turnaround which is a set formula of chord progression that is found to be repeated from song to song, because the formula works, and it satisfies the masses (Turnarounds: How They Work, and 10 Examples, 2011).
I do agree with Adorono’s theory on pop culture, and it is easier to understand when you break music down by the decades, there is a reason we specifically want 80s music or any other decade because the music all had the same sound and feel of what was popular at the time.
