Writing in Primary years – Writing as a social practice

In this final assignment for the subject, you are required to investigate and discuss what a writing program might constitute in the primary years. Specifically, this should include:

A discussion of writing as a social practice. Please use the readings I uploaded. Choose 7-10 readings. Thank you.

Analysis of the key writing skills and understandings students are required to develop (here, you will need to discuss those that relate to the early years and those that are necessary to develop as students move through the primary).

Elaboration of the teaching frameworks and approaches a teacher might use to support students in the development of students’ writing skills and understandings.

Your paper should demonstrate your ability to review and synthesise relevant professional literature. You will be expected to make reference to 7 to 10 professional readings for this assignment, with attention to prescribed subject readings and current research.

Assessment Criteria

1.Demonstrates an understanding of writing as a social practice drawing on authoritative professional literature

2.Examines the key writing skills and knowledge required by students in the primary school drawing on the literature.

3.Identifies teaching approaches which support the development of students’ key writing skills and knowledge

4.Draws on seven or more authoritative professional sources including prescribed subject readings

5.Communicates ideas in writing for an academic audience and purpose.

6.Uses APA referencing conventions to attribute sources cited.
