Requirements for Short Story Papers

1.
The paper must have a thesis, which can be argued.

2.
The paper must be 3-4 pages in length, a minimum of 3 typed pages. The font must be Times or Times New Roman, 12 point and 1in margins.

MLA documentation style must be used.

4.
Your research must include at least one primary source but no more than three and the use of at least three secondary sources. You may use books, periodicals, or articles from any library. ***No .coms are permitted.

The format of the paper should reflect MLA format as shown in the Handbook

6. The paper should possess a clear, concise thesis statement that reflects an argumentative or persuasive position. A well-developed introductory paragraph should provide the reader with a general overview of what the paper will argue, inclusive of your three points. The body of the paper should explain the points that you present in the intro. The research should be integrated throughout the paper to support each point made. Also, you must use quotes/information from the short story because it is the focus of the paper. The paper should have a strong conclusion that reiterates the main points of the paper and leads the reader to conclude that the “argued” thesis statement is valid, logical, and makes sense. The works cited page (not to be counted as one of the 3-4 pages of content) must be a correctly formatted as a Works Cited page as dictated by MLA styles.

The goal of your paper is to create an interpretation, an evaluative judgment, or a critical evaluation, which your overall paper will show to be a valid point.

8. YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR PAPER BY THE DEADLINE. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST-MINUTE AS TIMEZONES/CLOCK DIFFERENCES MAY RESULT IN A LATE ASSIGNMENT. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
10. Your papers should focus on at least one of the short stories I gave you. You are free to write on two stories if you want to compare/contrast. I SUGGEST THAT YOU Do not attempt to write on more than two stories. However, you may do a character analysis by showing the impact of an issue/theme/motif on three different characters in three different stories.

· DISCUSS STEREOTYPE OR FALLACY IN THE SHORT STORIES

· DISCUSS THE USE OF SYMBOLISM IN ANY OF THE SHORT STORIES

· DISCUSS VIOLENCE IN ANY OF THE SHORT STORIES

· CONSTRUCT YOUR OWN TOPIC AND HAVE IT APPROVED BY ME AT LEAST 1 WEEK PRIOR TO SUBMITTING THE PAPER.
